COACHES
Michael Welch (PGA) - Turned professional after a successful amateur career that included winning the British, European, and World boys events. Vast playing experience gained over a 12 year career which included playing on the European, Challenge, Asian, and African Tours. Finished 18th place in the 1996 British Open. Since 2006 has turned attention to coaching, and is currently coach to the Shropshire, Herefordshire County, and also assists with the Midland County squads. Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Golf Fitness coach.
Gavin Hamlyn (PGA, M.A. Psych) - PGA member since 1994. Originating from Manor Park Golf Club in New Zealand - which launched Michael Campbell (2005 US open winner), has a wealth of experience working alongside elite golfers. Most recently has been the Golf Performance Coach at the Darren Clarke Golf School in Northern Ireland. Has attained a Masters Degree in (Sport) Psychology, and has lectured the Sport Psychology Unit of the BTEC National Diploma in Sport. Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Golf Fitness coach.
Stuart Blair (PGA, B.A.SMgt) - For the last 7 years has gained vast experience in delivering a golf programme, working as a golf instructor and lecturer at Myerscough College. Has completed a BA (Hons) in Sports Management from the University of Central Lancashire, and attained a PGCE in Further Education. Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Golf Fitness coach.
Gareth James (PGA) - Turned professional in 2003 after a successful amateur career with Wales, winning the welsh boys title and a bronze medal at the 'European under 21's team championships'. Became a fully qualified PGA professional in 2006 when he won the title of 'PGA assistant of the year'. Is currently a national coach for the Golf Union of Wales and County Coach for Denbighshire. He is also an authorised instructor of 'the golfing machine' and a 'NLP' practitioner.
Simon Dainty (PGA) - Turned Professional after a successful amateur career originating from Stoke By Nayland Golf Club achieving representation for England and winning the England Schoolboys Championships. He enjoyed fifty Professional wins as a player across Europe but has now focused his efforts on developing golfers to maximise their potential. He has had 8 years experience coaching and working with a variety of players from beginner to elite county and international players.
Mark Hetherington (PGA) - Turned professional after a successful amateur career with notable success at club, county level and achieved representation for the Provence of Leinster. Qualified through the PGA foundation degree programme in 2007 after 4 years at the prestigious Portmarnock Golf club. Since then has concentrated on teaching throughout the UK, Ireland, and Australia which has involved training a number of elite amateur players and tour professionals competing on the Challenge Tour and Europro tour. Elliot Jones (PGA Trainee, Level 1) - Attended our 'sister' school, the Darren Clarke Golf School as a student between 2009-2011, completing the BTEC National Diploma in Sport with the top grade, DDD. While at the Darren Clarke Golf School Elliot was exposed to a world class golf and educational programme, and has a great understanding of what is required to excel within an environment such as the Lee Westwood Golf School.
TUTORS
Tandi Gerrard - Tandi who is originally from South Africa has taught at Leeds City College for two years. Previous to this Tandi was an elite athlete competing at two Olympic Games (Sydney and Athens), finishing fourth in 2004, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal in the 3M synchro diving. Tandi has a BSc. Hons. Degree in Sport and Exercise Science and is also a Coach for the Leeds City Diving Club, as well as an international diving judge.
Lee Chapman - Lee has worked at the College since 2007, having previously studied a Bsc Hons. Degree in Sports and Exercise Science. Lee has worked extensively in Spain setting sports programmes within resorts for major hotel groups, as well as coaching and playing Tennis to County level. Lee is a qualified personal trainer and enjoys delivering the anatomy and physiology side of the programmes.
Sarah Gorman - Achieved a BSc (HONS) in Sports Rehabilitation at the University of Bolton and I went on to complete my PGCE in the lifelong learning sector the year following my degree. I have taught level 2 and 3 courses in a variety of colleges including Southport College, Warrington Collegiate and currently I have been at Leeds City College for the past year. I have treated elite sports teams and I have completed experiences with some of the UKs top orthopaedic surgeons.
Craig Sumner - Craig has a degree in Applied Sports Science from the University of Glamorgan. Following this he went onto achieve a Masters degree in Health and Exercise Science from Glamorgan, and received his PGCE was from Cardiff University. Craig has been teaching BTEC Sport courses for eight years, and remains active in sport as he his a qualified football referee. |
