COACHES

 

Michael Welch (PGA) - Turned profession after a successful amateur career that included winning the British, European, and World boys events.  Vast playing experience gained over a 12 year career which included playing on the European, Challenge, Asian, and African Tours.  Finished 18th place in the 1996 British Open.  Since 2006 has turned attention to coaching, and is currently coach to the Shropshire, Herefordshire County, and also assists with the Midland County squads.

 

Gavin Hamlyn (PGA, M.A. Psych) - PGA member since 1994. Originating from Manor Park Golf Club in New Zealand - which launched Michael Campbell (2005 US open winner), has a wealth of experience working alongside elite golfers.  Most recently has been the Golf Performance Coach at the Junior Golf Academy in Northern Ireland. Has attained a Masters Degree in (Sport) Psychology, and has lectured the Sport Psychology Unit of the BTEC National Diploma in Sport. Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Golf Fitness coach. 

 

Stuart Blair (PGA, B.A.SMgt) - For the last 7 years has gained vast experience in delivering a golf programme, working as a golf instructor and lecturer at Myerscough College. Has completed a BA (Hons) in Sports Management from the University of Central Lancashire, and attained a PGCE in Further Education.

 

 

TUTORS

 

Caroline Nicholson - Having achieved a 1st class BSc (Hons) in Sport Exercise and Coaching Science and an MSc in Exercise Physiology from Manchester Metropolitan University. I have now been working as a sports lecturer for 7 years. I teach the anatomy, physiology and nutrition related units. I have worked as a Physiologist and Biomechanist for British Swimming and employed at the Manchester and Melbourne Commonwealth Games to provide Biomechanical support to a range of sports. More recently I have co-ordinated the fitness testing and nutritional sessions for the Bradford City FC 1st team.

 

Kim Randall - After achieving a BA (Hons) Degree in Sports Studies and Physical Education at York St John University, went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Education. As a specialist in Physical Education, taught for three years at a comprehensive school in Luton. Has been a full-time Lecturer in Sport at Leeds City College for the past 3 years teaching across a range of Level 2 and 3 programmes, and is currently the Curriculum Leader for Sport. Played in both the BUSA and Yorkshire and District Badminton Leagues whilst at University.

 

Kerry Stewart - Achieved a BA (Hons) in Physical Education with Management from York St Johns University.  For the previous 6 years has been teaching across a range of level 2 and 3 sports courses. I specialise in fitness training, sports coaching and business management. I am working towards an MA in Physical Education from Leeds Metropolitan University. I also spent 3 years in the USA coaching soccer and delivering training to new coaches about age related skills and techniques.

 

Danny Wild - After graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BSc in Sport and Geography I spent a year working in Italy as a Rugby Development Officer. When I returned to England I worked for the Rugby Football Union for three years as a Sports Development Officer and Coach Educator. I joined Leeds City College where I have taught for the last 5 years as a Sports Lecturer. My specialism’s are sports coaching, talent identification and nutrition. Outside of college I work for Leeds Carnegie Rugby Union Club as the Head of the Junior Academy.
